A Sticky Topic - Castor Oil

The Forgotten Therapeutic Applications of Castor Oil

This ancient remedy has been explored for many centuries by folklore medicine. The use of castor oil, either orally or transdermally for a wide range of complaints has been used by Naturopaths and other practitioners for the management of the health of their clients and patients.

Castor oil has many potential uses but the most common reasons for considering its application are:

  • Inflammation

  • Pain

  • Swelling

  • Gas and bloating

  • Constipation

  • Detoxification

  • Fibrocystic breasts

  • Skin detoxification

My favourite application relates to using castor oil to stimulate your lymph flow!

When castor oil is absorbed through the skin, several positive events take place:

💫 The lymphocyte count of the blood increases. Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that help your body's immune system fight off an infection.

💫 Lymph flow improves throughout the body, speeding the removal of cellular-related toxins and reducing swollen lymph nodes.

💫 As toxicity is reduced and health improves, the pH of the saliva becomes less acidic, and the Peyer’s patches in the small intestine become more efficient at fat absorption, which is essential for the formation of hormones, brain health, and other components necessary for growth and repair.

💫 There is a general overall improvement in organ function and a lessening of fatigue and depression.

☣️ Warning; Please ensure that you have complete bowel functioning before using castor oil over your liver area. The body must be able to eliminate/excrete effectively or this practice can invite more harm than benefit.

You also need a good foundation with beautiful hydration and nutritional practices, so your body has what it needs to support detoxification.

If you would like to try out the castor oil method but you’re not entirely happy with your bowel functioning, nutrition, or hydration, book a free 15-minute breakthrough session via the “Ways to Work with Me” page and let’s talk through what’s been going on and see if it’s something I can help you with or you can jump right to a, 1-hour consultation if you’re ready to get working right away with personalised insight into what steps to take to optimize your gut and liver health.

Otherwise, try out the following method, and let us all know how your experience went, with a comment below on your success ♡

METHOD

Pour about a tablespoon of organic cold-pressed castor oil onto your tummy. I like to take a few minutes to massage it in.

Place a cloth over the oiled area. I use an old face towel or you can cut up a towel into sections.

Cover face cloth with plastic - you can use cling film but I use a reusable wrap.

Place a hot water bottle over plastic for 30-60mins.

Rest while the pack is in place. I find this deeply relaxing and often fall asleep. It’s an ideal time to meditate, but always set the alarm 😉

When you are done gently cleanse the area with water.

The same piece of towel can be reused 3-4 times.

Take it very easy for the rest of the evening and eat very lightly, if at all.

It is advised not to do castor oil packs during pregnancy or when you have your period.

I don’t have a set routine as to when I do castor oil packs but whenever I do them I always make a mental note to be more consistent from the very next day as this simple cost-effective solution can make a huge difference to how I feel overall. If I have clients with sensitive digestion and sluggish lymph, rather than fighting against it, this technique has made a huge difference to their overall energy and enthusiasm.

I really hope you find these tips useful ♡
