Can we Build an Opportune Diet Against Coronaviruses?
Quercetin 🥙 and her bigger sister Kaempferol 🥗
Many are choosing to supplement with Quercetin given its’ anti-viral, anti-oxidant, and immuno-regulatory properties.
However, I have concerns about the potentially toxic effects of excessive intake of quercetin, after reading studies suggesting that quercetin supplementation, can interfere with thyroid function 😟
The good news is that Kaempferol-rich plant sources have higher bioavailability!!
It's another polyphenol with anti-inflammation, anti-viral, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant benefits, but doesn’t appear to have any negative effects on thyroid functioning!
Food is our fuel, it's a natural source of nutrition for our stone-age bodies - even in this modern world.
Sometimes we like to think we are smarter than we actually are and push things to excess. For some, taking a bulk amount of quercetin will be ok, but for many, I would suggest that it could cause a cascade of chaos.
Food first! If you’re not winning there, then and only then move on to an experiment of supplementation. And it is exactly that - an experiment of one (you!)
Quercetin glucoside from organic red onions has the highest extent of intestinal absorption relative to quercetin supplementation. Organic chili peppers, organic cooked asparagus, organic citrus and berries, organic dill, and oregano are other options with less bioavailability
Big sister Kaempferol is an encouraging flavonoid for coronaviruses prevention or mitigation. My favourite sources which give you the bonus and safe inclusion of quercetin are organic red onions, organic capers, and organic saffron.
There’s one other source of quercetin that I add to my smoothies in summer (eat seasonally and you will feel the benefits). Can you guess what it is in the picture? Organic Activated B________ G_____ ? 🌱
